Smith, Sarah Jane (29 May 1864 - 28 Nov. 1951)
Mrs. Jacob F. Smith passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 88 years, after a few hours illness. The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Wisconsin until Sunday noon. Funeral services will be held in the Colby Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2nd, at 2:30 o’clock and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery, Rev. Lee Holmes of Loyal officiating.
Sarah Jane Miller, only daughter of James and Margaret Miller, was born in Tyrone, Ireland, on May 29, 1864. She came to the United States with her parents and four brothers and settled in Easton, Maryland, and, later moved to Philadelphia, Penn., where she made her home until four years ago when she came to Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Jacob F. Smith in the Methodist church in Philadelphia, Penn., on November 1, 1884. To this union four children were born, three of whom, Joseph, Elizabeth and Thomas, preceded her in death. She moved to Wisconsin in 1947 and made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. F. J. Smith at Colby and lived here with her husband until July of this year when the two took up their residence in the Bethel Convalescent Home near Arpin.
Mrs. Smith leaves to mourn her departure her husband; one son, Rev. F. J. Smith; five grand children; and a host of nephews and nieces.
When a girl, Mrs. Smith was converted in Ireland in Plymouth Brethern meeting but was also a faithful attendant of the Episcopal church. When the family came to the United States, the entire family joined the Methodist church. Two of Mrs. Smith’s brothers were Methodist ministers.
Mrs. Smith was a good wife and mother and a devout Christian, serving her God faithfully and well.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob F. Smith were held at the Colby Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Lee Holmes of Loyal officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Harry Bender, Gust Brehm, Sewell Cook, Theo. Domer, B. W. Mabbott, Chas. Schultz.
Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Jake Smith of Renville, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Merril Wilcox of Minong, Mr. and Mr. Tom Smith of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Bart Luttrel of Wausau, Mrs. Rose Herrell of Augusta.
